Obtaining a Custom Web Address
What is a Custom Web Address?
A Custom Web Address is a way to create a simplified URL for a Web page. For example the Fencing club has the address of nadi.calpoly.edu/~fencing/. They want the easier to remember address of fencing.calpoly.edu.
Who Can Have a Custom Web Address?
In general, a Custom Web Address can be created for any of the groups listed within the Organizational Accounts page. If your group is not listed within this page, you must contact the Service Desk which will make request of the CIO for granting of the address.
Getting a Custom Web Address
There are two methods for obtaining a Custom Web Address (vanity name or custom URL) depending on where your Web site is being hosted:
- For Central UNIX accounts, download and complete the pdf file, "Custom Web Address" form (PDF) (get Adobe Reader). FAX or return the completed request to the ITS Service Desk at 756-1536 or building 14 room 114.
- To obtain a Custom Web Address for Department Web servers, go to the ITS Network Administration Web site and fill out their "IP Address and Name Service Request Form".
